SUMMARY:Music & Prayer SUNDATES at the Loyola Retreat House
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the February National Arts Month 2026 \nInspired by NCCA’s Art Fridates\, Loyola Retreat House – Spirituality and Art Center Angono presents Music & Prayer SUNDATES at LRH. Every Sunday this February\, after the 10:00 AM Mass\, we gather at the Chapel of the Risen Lord for musical offerings by Angono’s homegrown and celebrated artists and musicians. \nMusic has a way of opening the heart when words alone fall short. Like the psalms\, music helps us pray with the whole of who we are—mind\, heart\, and body.\nPrayer\, in turn\, gives music its deepest meaning. When offered to God\, music becomes encounter: not performance\, but presence. \nA “Sundate” is a date with God and with one another\, where faith is not rushed but savored. \nJoin us as music\, prayer\, and community come together—reminding us that spirituality is not only about duty\, but also about delight\, rest\, and love in God’s presence.\nAll is welcome 💙

SUMMARY:PASTORES: Completing the Nativity Collection of LRH-SACA
DESCRIPTION:This Christmas 2026\, the Loyola Retreat House – Spirituality and Arts Center of Angono (LRH-SACA) proudly presents PASTORES\, the concluding set of our Nativity Collection that began with Pesebres (2023) and Magi (2024).The word pastores comes from Spanish\, meaning herders—the humble shepherds who kept watch over their flocks on the night when the angels announced the birth of the Promised One. Guided by the heavenly message\, they went to Bethlehem to find the Child wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger\, as narrated by St. Luke. This year’s exhibit highlights five figures: three shepherds\, symbolizing humility\, readiness\, and faith; and a donkey and a cow\, traditionally included in Nativity iconography as an echo of Isaiah 1:3: “The ox knows its owner\, and the donkey its master’s crib…”As with our previous exhibits\, the figures have been meticulously hand-painted by artists from Angono and the lakeshore art communities\, as well as Jesuit artists from the Jesuit Residence\, Ateneo de Manila University.PASTORES is an offering of faith\, culture\, and Filipino devotion—a tribute to the first witnesses of Christ’s birth and to the enduring artistry of our community.Join us as we open this year’s Christmas exhibit and continue celebrating the story of the Nativity through art.

SUMMARY:SILYA: More than a Convenience
DESCRIPTION:SILYA: More than a Convenience\nA chair can be simple\, like a dining chair\, or comfortable\, like a sofa. It may have arms like an armchair\, or lack a backrest\, like a stool or bench. The colonial Philippine bahay na bato featured a variety of chairs that reflected both function and design suited to its tropical environment. In addition to the standard chairs used in the dining room\, kitchen\, study\, and bedroom-collectively known as silla (Spanish) or silya (a pan-Philippine term)—there were couches and armchairs in the sala (living room). These were not upholstered due to the tropical weather and humidity but instead featured rattan caning or solihiya. The sala also often had a high chair placed beside a window\, providing a vantage point to view street scenes during fiestas\, processions\, and parades. Chairs in the antesala (anteroom) for guests were inspired by the elegant Thonet bentwood birch chairs imported from Austria.A bench\, or kapiya\, was commonly found in the kitchen or the zaguan (the ground floor of the bahay na bato). Unique to the Philippines was the gallinera\, a special bench with a built-in chicken cage underneath.Although the Philippines had no monarchy-and therefore no regal thrones—it had the silla episcopal and the silla ceremonial. The upholstered silla episcopal was used in high liturgies and was placed under a canopy in cathedrals\, reserved exclusively for bishops. The silla ceremonial was designated for non-liturgical functions and used by civil officials and other dignitaries.Inspired by the works of Willie Garcia and Roxanne Cuacoy-who transform single-use plastics into useful and expressive products— Lambana: Angono Women Artists Collective rose to the challenge of breathing new life into old\, forgotten chairs. They reimagined these pieces into meaningful works of art\, giving them renewed purpose.Lambana women draws on the symbolic theme of a SILYA to express hope as part of their participation in AD SPEM PER ARTEM (Hope through Art)\, the inaugural exhibit of LRH-SACA’s Pedro Calungsod Art Space. This theme resonates deeply with the Jubilee Year 2025’s focus: Peregrinantes in Spem (Pilgrims of Hope).\nArtists:\nCecille Artillaga\nGrets Balajadia\nSabina Joy Vocalan Cruz\nSarah Geneblazo.\nRosalie Vitor Gonzales\nHaidee Juban\nHazel Miranda\nKeiye Miranda\nInang Elvira Santos\nLucila Gragera Zara\nExhibit will be on view until April 20\, 2025 at the Pedro Calungsod Art Space of LRH-SACA. Open to the public.

SUMMARY:Magi Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Feast of the Magi\, also known as “Epiphany\,” comes from the Greek word “epiphainen\,” meaning “to reveal\,” “to show forth\,” or “to uncover.” It commemorates the visit of the Magi to the child Jesus\, symbolizing the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles. Traditionally celebrated on January 6 by the Roman Catholic Church\, the feast may be moved\, at the discretion of the local Church\, to the first Sunday after January 1\, following the Solemnity of Mary\, Mother of God.“Magi\,” the Christmas 2024 celebration at the St. Peter Faber Corridor of the Loyola Retreat House – Spirituality and Art Center Angono (LRH-SACA)\, is presented by Penshoppe Art Gallery in collaboration with Angkla Art Gallery of Angono. At its heart is a resin sculpture of the Three Magi\, beautifully painted by 60 artists from the Laguna Lakeshore. Many of these artists also crafted and painted the images of Jesus\, Mary\, and Joseph\, forming the foundation of LRH-SACA’s evolving Nativity set. With the addition of the Magi\, the crèche continues to grow\, eventually featuring over a dozen figures to create a complete and richly detailed depiction of the Nativity scene. This Advent\, may the journey of the Magi\, guided by faith and leading to the light of Christ\, inspire us all. May their story fill our hearts with peace\, love\, and hope.Join us this Sunday\, December 8\, as we launch the “Magi” exhibit with a Thanksgiving Mass at 4PM to be presided by Rev.
