Warmest greetings from the Loyola Retreat House – Spirituality and Art Center Angono as we joyfully celebrate the 50th Sacerdotal Anniversary of Rev. Fr. René Pio B. Javellana, SJ.
A Jesuit priest, distinguished art historian, author, and educator, Fr. René has devoted his life to the service of both faith and culture. As Associate Professor of Fine Arts at the Ateneo de Manila University and Archivist of the Philippine Jesuit Province, he has tirelessly worked to deepen the understanding of Philippine colonial art, architecture, and history. Through his scholarship, writings, and lectures, he has helped generations appreciate how art can become a powerful bridge between heritage, spirituality, and contemporary life.
At the Loyola Retreat House, we are especially grateful for his leadership and guidance as Vice President of LRH and Gallery Director of the Penshoppe Art Gallery, where his vision continues to shape a vibrant dialogue between faith, art, and community. His commitment to heritage conservation and cultural stewardship has enriched not only the Jesuit mission but also the wider Filipino artistic and academic community.
As we give thanks for fifty years of faithful priestly ministry, we celebrate Fr. René’s enduring witness—one that reminds us that beauty, history, and faith together can illuminate the path toward deeper understanding and hope.
Ad multos annos, Fr. René!
